NW Calgary is our home market. Garage firewalls and suite separations are among the most common fire-rated drywall jobs we do here. Communities like Tuscany, Royal Oak, Sage Hill and Evanston have a high proportion of attached-garage homes and active suite development. We install and finish fire-rated board in these communities every week.
In newer NW communities — Carrington, Nolan Hill, Kincora — builds from the last five years typically have correct firewall board already, but incomplete or missed areas (unfinished garage ceilings where living space is directly above, incomplete taping at the perimeter) are common. We assess and correct these cleanly.
In mature NW communities like Hawkwood, Ranchlands and Silver Springs, 1980s and 1990s homes were often built with 1/2″ board in the garage — not the 5/8″ Type X required by current code. Home buyers flagging this during inspection, insurance requirements tightening, or owners converting basements to suites are the typical triggers. We replace or overlay with correct board and finish it.
