Edgemont is one of the best candidates for skim coating in NW Calgary. 30-40 year old ceilings with multiple cracks, old stipple, and high renovation activity -- a fresh skim coat is the right call.
Edgemont's homes are 30-40 years old and in the mature renovation belt of NW Calgary. The ceiling profile in most Edgemont homes: knockdown or stipple from the late 1980s and early 1990s, with multiple settling cracks that have been patched (often badly) over the years. When homeowners here are repainting or renovating a room, there's often a question of whether to patch the existing cracks again or do a full skim coat to get a fresh, flat surface.
Our answer depends on the specific ceiling, but when there are 6+ cracks in a room and the existing texture is uneven from previous repairs, a full skim coat is almost always better value than individual patches. You get a continuous flat surface instead of a ceiling that looks like it's been repaired multiple times.
